Tennis: World No.1 and 17-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has said that she worked hard especially after Wimbledon and she is now going in the right direction, after winning the title in Stanford.

Serena Williams won the French Open and US Open last year but this year as she not gone beyond 4th round in any of the Grand Slams. Her last two results before Stanford were losses in the second round of the French Open and 3rd round of Wimbledon.

'I've been training hard all year and hopefully that pays off, especially after Wimbledon,' Williams said. 'I stayed positive here. This shows I'm moving in the right direction.'

Williams defeated Angelique Kerber in the final of the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford. She was 5-1 down in the first set but came back to win it 7-6, 6-3.

'I blinked my eye and I was down 1-5,' Williams said. 'Angelique was playing well and I thought 'What's going on?' I tried to relax, not think about anything and just do the right thing.'

'It's a good thing that it happened,' Williams said. 'When I'm not playing great I know I can make some kind of comeback.'
